We are Per and Elly Kjellqvist, your skipper and hostess, and we operate S/Y Sybaris full time, making sure she is always ready for our guests. Our job is to take care of the tedious stuff, while your main task is to lean back and relax to the max. From May to September we sail along the south western coast of Turkey and the Greek Dodecanese islands, where you can choose one of our suggested routes. Read on to see what a typical week on Sybaris is like. Sailing. The sailing is generally easy in SW Turkey, where you seldom have strong winds in the summer. Greece, is more exposed to the Meltemi winds in July and August, resulting in more exciting sailing for those who like that. If you are interested in taking part in the sailing or anything else on board you are more than welcome, and Per is happy to give you some sailing training. Ancient sites. The Turkish coast and Greek islands are littered with ancient sites dating back to the first Greek civilizations and reaching through the Roman empire, Byzantium, the Crusaders and Venetian times. Some sights are not tourist centers, have no entrance fees, and you will often find yourself the only people strolling around. World famous sights like Ephesus, Halicarnassus, and the Palace of the Grand Master in Rhodes are a must even if you are not into history or archeology. Religious history. The area between the Levant (Syria and Lebanon) and Greece is where Christianity first got a foothold, and you will find many interesting places such as the Monastery of St. John and the cave where here wrote the Apocalypse (revelation) on the Greek island of Patmos, and the Church of St. Nicolas in the Turkish town of Mura. You can literally follow in the footsteps of St. John and St. Paul who both traveled here spreading the new religion. Greek islands. The Greek islands are known for their narrow winding alleys and white buildings with blue doors and windows. Being there is at times like being in a movie, and something you will relish for a long time. Turkish bazaars. We all like shopping for a good deal don't we? Well in places like Bodrum, Kusadasi, and Marmaris you can get lost in the bazaars and purchase those "genuine" fake T-shirts or handbags you always wanted. Party hotspots. If you like to spend the evening out partying, be sure to include Bodrum, Kos, Rhodes, or Marmaris in your itinerary. Secluded bays. The aim of a sailing holiday for many is to get away from the daily hectic life, and nothing is more relaxing than finding a nice secluded bay and simply spending a day or more chilling out, swimming, trekking, kayaking, reading or taking a nap in the sun. Culinary delights. The Mediterranean kitchen is hard to beat with all it's fresh and healthy ingredients. How about a mezze with beautiful vegetables and fresh fish from the sea at a tavern on the beach. On board Sybaris you will also experience the culinary delights prepared by Elly. Breakfasts worth getting up early for, and fresh Mediterranean lunches to dream about. Scuba diving. Sybaris has scuba and snorkeling gear on board. In Greece scuba diving is now allowed in most areas, and Per (an ex. scuba instructor) can guide you to some good spots. In Turkey you are required to dive with a local licensed dive guide. Just snorkeling in the crystal clear water around the boat is otherwise all that is needed to experience the beautiful underwater life. Celebrations. Why not celebrate a special occasion on Sybaris. An important birthday, a wedding anniversary, or a promotion for example. Let us know and we will help you make it special. |
